GearUp Virtual Camp

Mon, June 22 | 10:00 am - Fri, July 31 | 2:00 pm

The American Airlines CR Smith Museum is delighted to announce a brand new interactive virtual camp which will take place 100% online! With creative thinking and help from our amazing American Airlines team members, we have created hands-on camp experience which will keep the “COVID Learning Slide” at bay and will keep feeding your kids’ and teens’ excitement for aviation and STEM.

GearUp Virtual Camp includes exclusive behind-the-scenes footage and sneak peeks, live chats with industry experts, fun activities, and, of course, hands-on engineering challenges.

Campers will meet online twice a day, Monday-Friday (10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.) for an interactive 40-minute session.

  • Grades 2-6: June 22-26 or July 6-10

  • Grades 7-11: July 13-17 or July 27-31

The format of GearUp Virtual Camp is innovative: it combines a variety of strategies seldom present in other online programs. Our rigorous program is standards-based and TEKS-aligned.

We are excited to pioneer this effort in order to offer the most interactive and engaging online program possible for our virtual campers. As we are exploring uncharted territory with this format, and will be using this year as our “alpha testing” to reach campers outside of the DFW area, we are offering this program at a highly discounted price: only $60 (+ fees) for a week of programming!

We are excited to welcome you to our first virtual camp!

FAQs

What’s the refund policy?
You may cancel your registration up to two weeks before the start of camp for a 50% refund.

Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn’t match the person who attends?
An adult (18+) must place the order. You will be asked to provide information on each attendee at checkout.

What are the technical requirements for this virtual camp?
You will need a computer with internet access. You will also need access to Zoom either via a browser or by downloading the software to your computer. As this is an interactive camp, a connected webcam is required for the first session and strongly recommended, thereafter.

What are the other requirements?
Some activities will involve basic crafting materials that you probably have at home already. If not, we anticipate a short trip to the store. We will provide a full list when you enroll. Additionally, we are offering the option to purchase a GearUp Activity Box that will include all materials. Save the trip to the store and select this option at checkout!

Can I enroll my child in more than one week?
The content of camps for the same age group will be identical. You are welcome to enroll in more than one week if you think your child will enjoy repeating the activities.

Will I need to support my child during the camp?
We have designed camp to be accessible to the child’s age. We will also be offering “office hours” throughout the day if your child wants additional help.

What safety protocols are in place?
We have fully control over the virtual platform and sessions will be private to camp attendees only. We will require that you and your child join us on camera for the introductory session. After which, you may opt to disable your camera.

What if there are technical difficulties? Will we miss camp?
You will be invited to a “technical troubleshoot” session on the Saturday prior to your child’s camp. This will be a great opportunity to become familiar with the platform.

If my child misses a day, will they be able to catch up?
We understand life happens. It is important your child fully attends the first day as we introduce multi-day activities. Other days are “standalone”.

How can I contact the organizer with any additional questions?
