OUTDOOR ADVERTISING

In 1986, the Foster and Kleiser Company sent twenty-nine original 5x7 negatives of American Airlines outdoor advertisements that Foster and Kleiser had produced for American to Paul Kent, who was the head of the “American Airlines Museum” in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The advertisements depicted in these negatives appeared in the Los Angeles area between 1938 and 1959 and they are a wonderful visual record of how airlines reached their target audiences in an age before mass media. Here is a sampling of those images. (Click on Thumbnail)
